Maranatha Health Australia is seeking passionate and skilled individuals to join our Board of Directors.

For nearly 15 years, Maranatha Health has worked alongside communities in rural Uganda to improve access to healthcare and support long-term wellbeing. As our work continues to grow, we are looking to appoint up to three new board members who can help guide and strengthen our mission.

We are particularly interested in people with experience in not-for-profit governance, fundraising, or marketing and social media.

Maranatha Health: Seeking Board Members

Maranatha Health is a not-for-profit organisation based in Australia and Uganda that works to improve health outcomes, empower vulnerable communities, and create lasting positive change in rural Uganda.

Founded nearly 15 years ago by Australians Michael and Kim Findlay, Maranatha Health began with a simple vision: that every community, no matter where they live, should have access to high-quality, compassionate healthcare. Since then, the organisation has been working alongside local communities to make this vision a reality.

Our work focuses on the holistic health and wellbeing of the communities we serve. We operate a children’s hospital that treats an average of 12,000 patients each year, providing quality care to children who would otherwise struggle to access or afford healthcare. We also partner with remote communities to elect, train, and support Village Health Advisors, equipping local leaders to become agents of health and wellbeing in their own villages.

Maranatha Health is a registered charity in Australia, governed by a Board of Directors and supported by an ATO-approved Public Ancillary Fund that enables tax-deductible donations. In Uganda, the organisation is registered as a not-for-profit and overseen by a local Board of Directors.

Board Member Opportunities

The Maranatha Health Australia Board currently consists of five members with diverse professional backgrounds and skills. As we continue to grow and strengthen our governance, we are seeking to appoint up to three additional board members to complement the existing Board and broaden our expertise.

We are particularly interested in individuals with experience in:

• The not-for-profit sector, including charity governance and operations
• Fundraising, with the ability to expand Maranatha Health’s reach and funding opportunities
• Marketing and social media, to help strengthen communication and engagement

Expectations of Board Members

Board members are expected to:

• Support Maranatha Health’s mission, values, and operating principles
• Contribute to sound governance practices for a not-for-profit organisation
• Engage with financial oversight and responsible allocation of funds
• Commit to a minimum two-year term
• Attend Board meetings approximately every two months (typically held online via Teams or Zoom at 8:00pm AEST), and occasional fundraising events
• Respond to occasional emails or discussions between meetings regarding operational matters
• Respect the distinct roles of the Board, staff, and volunteers, and take on leadership roles where appropriate

Board Selection Process

• The process for appointing new board members includes:
• Submitting an Expression of Interest
• Meeting with two current Board members to discuss your interest and experience
• Reviewing and agreeing to the Board Manual
• Participation in the final Board election process
