Maranatha Health is very excited to introduce our new Doctor at Maranatha Health, Dr Zishan, who started in February this year. After advertising widely for a medical doctor for six months prior, Dr Zish seemingly arrived on our doorstep like an answer to prayer, contacting us on the day our current expat doctor was leaving. He is a wonderful fit for our organisation, and we are enjoying working together.
Hello, my name is Dr Zish and I have recently started work at Maranatha Health Uganda as a Volunteer Medical Officer. I am a family medicine specialist (GP) from the UK with an interest in quality improvement, medical education, healthcare technology and global health.
Last month I moved to Kabarole, Uganda with my wife and two young children with a hope of learning more about the specific healthcare challenges in this region. We previously lived in South-Western Uganda from 2017-2018 where we fell in love with the country, the wildlife, the people and the culture. There my wife and I worked in a community hospital located at the entrance to the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest.
This time round I was lucky to hear about Maranatha from a friend and previous volunteer at the hospital who put me in touch with the Australian directors. Three weeks on and I continue to be amazed by the quality of care delivered by this small community facility. The hard work invested in training of the staff here shines through in the evidence based approach to patient care which appears unique from any other facility in Uganda that I have visited.
I am delighted to join the team and serve alongside my colleagues as we work together to fulfill the mission of Maranatha Health, forming friendships and learning from one another along the way!
